Who we are
At Moon Lake Pecans, our roots run deep. In fact, our roots date back nearly 100 years and span 5 generations. The grove, located on the western bank of beautiful Moon Lake was planted by Mr. M.F. Owens in the early 1900s then purchased by G.T. Mohead in the early 1920’s. Mr. Mohead and his sons turned this fertile Mississippi Delta land into one of the areas most coveted pecan groves. The Mohead family farmed this orchard until 2016 when Moon Lake Pecans began leasing the orchard from it’s new owners.
James and Nancy Callahan, owners of Moon Lake Pecans became the third generation to farm and operate this grove with Nancy being the granddaughter of G.T. Mohead. Today, Moon Lake Pecans has ventured beyond selling only to the traditional wholesale pecan brokers. You can now purchase Moon Lake Pecans at local North Mississippi Farmer’s markets, in local produce stores and of course right here on our website.
With the help of Mr. Mohead’s great grandson and great great grandchildren, five generations have farmed and sold pecans from this orchard. If only our trees could talk and tell us what they have witnessed over the last century! From floods to droughts, tornadoes to ice storms and not to mention all of that Mississippi Delta history. We trust that you and your family will enjoy the pecans produced in this grove as much as we enjoy bringing them to you!
